| As regards electricity charges |
In the last year, the farmers had become helpless due to giving connection for electricity for water in farming. The farmers were in need of water and not electricity. On making available water to the farmers, they become free from problems of electricity and electricity would be saved and on availability of three phase electricity round the clock through Jyotigram, villages would be illuminated. |
The electricity duly charged at 5 per cent being recovered for the last 25 years from the farmers, was abolished completely from July, 2004. |
If the farmer pays the amount of electricity bill in advance, 8% amount is being credited in his bill by calculating the interest for example, if a farmer has 10 horse powered electricity connection, he has to pay Rs.8075 at the
rate of 807.50 for one horse power. However if he pays amount in advance, he has to pay less Rs.646 at 8 per cent. |

| Gigantic charges in amounts of supplementary bills and simple assessment system |
Basic change was made in calculation of penalty bills issued to the farmers and calculation of penalty bill has made extremely simple. For example, earlier a penalty bill for 20 horse power motor was assessed to Rs.3,16,388.50 p., now as per simple assessment system, it come to Rs.80,000 at Rs.4,000 for horse power.
Low voltage problem persisted due to transformer being away from connections. In order to overcome this problem, 678 transformers were brought in load centers from its original site.
Power failures were reported due to snapping of wires often and 20 to 25 years old wire were not replaced which were replaced for 1761 km length and the complaint was solved. |
| Steps taken for uninterrupted supply |
Earlier burnt out transformers were not replaced for 15 to 20 das with the result standing crops of the farmers was withering and they had to bear loss of thousands of rupees. Now in order to solve this problem, the burnt out transformers are replaced in 48 hours and not a single burnt out transformer remains pending. |
Due to the above effective procedure the proportion of burning out motors has been reduced. Not only this, the expenditure being incurred for it has
stopped the farmers are benefited to the extent of Rs. 10 to 15 thousands of
rupees from it. |
The farmers have been able to get sufficient voltage and uninterrupted electricity supply. They could get large quantity of water through their motors. |
| Useful steps taken for small consumers |
With effect from 1.10.2000, the electricity charges applicable to the consumers for the residential purpose by the Gujarat Electricity Board which were 20,25 and 40 percent were reduced to 15,20 and 35 per cent respectively. |
About 55 lakh consumers were benefited from it. |
