Krushi Mahotsav 2006 : Doubled the income of farmers in a single Krushi Mahotsav

During the last Krushi Mahotsav - 2005, the agricultural scientists had provided guidance for undertaking scientific farming based on knowledge rather than traditional farming by direct communication with farmers in 18000 villages of the State. Along with this, they provided special guidance as regards paying attention to cropping, looking to the soil of the area, how our ancient method can be effective in controlling pest disease, and cost of fertilizers can be reduced, and reduced fertility of soil due to increased use of fertilizers. Intensive efforts were made to bring about agricultural revolution through exports of the State Govt. and its various departments but a question would be raised whether the farmers of the State acquired skill in farming by obtaining knowledge through the Krushi Mahotsav? in order to get response of this query a research survey was conducted through four agriculture universities of Dantwada, Junagadh, Anand and Navasari. An interesting finding of this survey is that the farmers mixed science along with traditional farming, with the result the dream of doubling the income of the farmers of the State Govt. is being realized.

If we glance at the details of survey, we will find that the farmers got income of Rs.1446 crore 84 lakhs by adopting increased farming techniques. Similarly, efficient use of fertilizers instead of its excessive use, and due to balance use of water they earned income by saving of Rs.1126 crore 80 lakh and 13 crore 83 lakh respectively. Likewise, the farmers who are determined to obtain production of crops as per market demand have got net income of Rs.23 crores and those who have changed crop protection in sown crops got Rs.620 crore 25 lakhs. Thus the farmers have got income of Rs.3221 crores 8 lakhs.

Similarly, it we look at the statistics of economic gain per hectare, with shift in agricultural pattern, a profit of Rs.350 to 3500, with efficient use of fertilizers per hectare Rs.800 to 8500 in irrigation methods and shift in crop protection measures Rs.410 ti 690 and Rs.760 to Rs.3200 respectively has been made. The farmers could achieve increase of Rs.300 per hectare with shift in value addition of produced crops.
