The Agriculture & Co-operation Department of Gujarat Govt. takes care of agriculture and related matters in its charge like
horticulture, soil conservation,
animal husbandry,and and formation of policies / schemes in
co-operative activities as well as implementation, monitoring and supervision. A separate Horticulture Department has been set up from the Agriculture Department considering the importance of the increasing agriculture area for Horticulture farming and
horticultural activities in the State.
Four Agriculture Universities are functional under the Department to carry out education and research related activities in the area of agriculture
and related subjects. Head of the Department (HOD), Corporations, Committees and other institutions are working under the administrative control of the department to advice and assist in policy making for
departmental activities and in
implementation and monitoring of programs.
The key objective of the Agriculture Departmentis to meet the need of the State and to increase the income of farmers by
increase in agricultural production by increasing agricultural productivity by giving the knowledge of scientific methods of agriculture to the farmers and byimplementing
The main objective of the Horticulture Department is to meet the need of the State and to increase the income of farmers by increasing productivity and production of horticultural crops by giving the knowledge of scientific methods of farming to the farmers
and by implementing various schemes. Along with the animal husbandry, poultry, dairy and fodder development in the State, to implement the schemes for veterinary treatment, disease control, protection of livestock against diseases, etc. through regional officials
and to manage the entire activities of animal husbandry in the State, animal husbandry regulatory organization has been set up.
The main objective of the Agriculture Universities of the State is to increase the agricultural production by co-ordination of agricultural research, education and extended education and by that to improve economic condition of the rural people.
Land Development Corporation has adopted a strategy to improve land productivity by taking proper care of land and water and by preventing erosion of important soil nutrients, promote the ancillary development in the rural areas as well as adopting an integrated
approach in the field of soil and water conservation.
