Technology Mission for Cotton
 
Need for Technology Mission on Cotton (TMC)
Considering the importance of cotton crop in the national economy and also considering the need for improvement in the production, productivity and quality of cotton, the Government of India is launching a Technology Mission on Cotton. The basic objectives of the proposed Cotton Technology Mission
 
(a) To improve the yleld and quality of cotton by developing better cotton varieties and integrated water, nutrient and Pest Management technologies and their transfer to farmers.
(b) To increase the production and proauctivity of cotton by increasing the per hectare yield and reduce the cost of cultivation by proper Transfer of Technology to growers, thereby increasing income of cotton growers as well as increasing the availability of cotton for internal consumption and exports.
(c) To improve the market yards of cotton by improving their infrastructure which will provide better facilities for cotton ' marketing and reduce contamination of cotton.
(d) To improve cotton processing facilities by upgrading/ modernising existing ginning and pressing factories in the country, to provide Textile Mills in the country and outside with clean cotton free from contairiction.
To fulfil the above objectives, Four Mini Missions will be established, under TMC as follows:
 
Mini Mission I : Cotton Research.
Mini Mission II : Development (Transfer of Technology)
Mini Mission III : Improvement of Market Infrastructure.
Mini Mission IV : Modernisation/upgradation of G&P factories.
