Activities and Function of the BOARD

Organizing Training programme for secretaries, inspectors, accountants and other office bearers of APMCs.

Participation in state level, national level exhibitions and seminars.

In past the Board undertook foreign tours of Israel, USA and European countries.

Organized seminar on the impact of WTO on agricultural marketing in April 2001 at Tithal, District - Valsad.

Organized state level discussion on impact of implementation of Model Act in the presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister, Gujarat State.

Under the Technology mission on Cotton mini mission III new market yards and improvement of existing yards for trade of cotton having open sheds for cotton oxen, proper parking area, grading laboratory and equipments, Farmers Information Center, and other facilities were being established in the state under the nodal agency of Gujarat Agriculture Marketing Board. Due to intensive promotion and proper guidance in last 3 years, Board has been able to get 41 projects of TMC (list attached) sanctioned worth Rs. 77.13 crores and ranks third in the country next to Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Computer network connection to APMCs under "Agmarknet” scheme of Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, Government of India. At present 280 main yards and sub yards are equipped with computer & Internet facilities and are sending daily prices of arrivals to the Agmarknet site.

One of the seven promoters in establishing on-line commodity exchange Board of India. Other participants are NAFED, Central Warehousing Corporation, Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation and National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM).

Promoting contract farming in the State by
(A) printing, Publishing and distributing brochures in English and Gujarati
(B) Developing C.D. on contract farming (English and Gujarati) and
(C) Preparing a short documentary on “ Understanding Contract Farming “ in Gujarati language.

Advertised ”Contract Farming “ documentary in doordarshan “ so that farmers can have better understanding of contract farming.

Managing Director of Gujarat State Agricultural Marketing board Acts as an "Arbitrator" during the disputes between any parties regarding any matter pertaining to contract farming agreement.

Translation, printing and distributing the booklets of various schemes / projects of govt. of India in Gujarati language.

Preparation of commodity profile of post harvest management of Major commodities of Gujarat viz. Potato, Cotton, Cumin, Sesame, mango, onion, etc.

Collection, coordinating and verifying database collected for Market Atlas.

Preparing training modules for farmers in the post harvest management like good storage practices, transportation, packing, value addition by grading and marketing of their produce to get proper price.
